The Emma Lode,Orogrande, NM
The Emma Lode is located at LAT N32.41384° LONG W106.11334°.
What do we know about the Emma Lode? Well, not much, as usual. This mine is on the road between the Garnet Mine and the Iron Queen. This was a lower scale operation when compared to some of the other mines in the area but had an elaborate system for loading cars and an aerial support system. The only thing we know for sure is the name. It might not be the most current name, but at one time, it was the Emma Lode.
There are no noticeable shafts in this complex and improvements seem to consist of one small tunnel. Although, no one ventured into this, it may have been more than we suspect.
Legal stuff: We are interested in the mining history of New Mexico but, we, at the Raging Main, do not encourage nor do we recommend for anyone to venture into any mines, shafts or caves...neither does the BLM Abandoned Mine Lands Cleanup Program. Mines are killers and many hazards exist...If you have questions about mine safety please go to: http://www.blm.gov/aml/.
